be comfortable in class.
Loose pants (not jeans), tights or a full skirt you can wear comfortably on your hips.
Comfortable top – one that allows your arms to move freely.
Hip Shawl/Scarf - to tie around your hips to facilitate awareness of movement in your hips.
Bare feet and long hair tied up.
Bare belly optional.
What to Bring
Have a dance bag – this way your dance items are always with you.
Water bottle, hip scarf/belt, zills, veil, pen & paper, yoga mat for cool down and core strength exercises, a sense of humour and an attitude to work hard and have fun.
Class Content :
Our weekly class consists of mixed levels as described below.
BEGINNERS – LEVEL ONE - covers the basic fast and slow core movements of ATS, with an emphasis on dance posture, body awareness, formations for leading and following and having some fun.
The above class corresponds with the FCBD dvd Tribal Basics, Dance Fundamentals Vol 1.
INTERMEDIATE – LEVEL TWO – learn to play the zills (finger cymbals) and incorporate this into your dancing. Drills, formations, cues and transitions are covered in more detail. Students require their own set of zills and must have completed Level One. The vocabulary of dance steps and formations are expanded according to skill level of class participants on the night.
The above class corresponds with the FCBD dvd's : Tribal Basics Vol 1 : Zills Vol 3 : Advanced Workshop Vol.4.
ADVANCED – LEVEL THREE - introduces exciting variations and extensions to the basic movements, advanced steps and combinations, layering, embellishments, use of props, stage presence and much more. Steps may be included from different styles of dance to add an individual touch for troupe performances. Students need to have completed Level 1 & 2 to join this class.
A class uniform of a black 10 yard skirt, choli and a hip scarf, which makes up the base of your ATS costume, is required for this level.
The above class corresponds with the FCBD® dvds : Advanced Workshop Vol 4 : Cues & Transitions Vol 5 : Improvisational Choreography Vol 6 and Creative Steps & Combinations Vol 7.
